Waynesboro, VA – November 7, 2024 – The Wayne Theatre’s Executive Director, Tracy Straight, was awarded The Commander’s Award for Public Service on November 6, 2024, in recognition of her exceptional support of the United States Army Field Band and her dedication to honoring our nation’s soldiers and veterans through music. This distinguished Public Service Commendation Medal was presented by the U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors, known as “America’s Big Band,” during their free concert at the Wayne Theatre, when the bandleader remarked that this was the first time in his 25-year history with this band that he has seen such an award be given.
The award celebrates Tracy’s remarkable patriotic support and her commitment to providing the community with opportunities to experience the musical talents of the U.S. Army Field Band. This year’s concert marked the fifth time Tracy has presented the U.S. Army Field Band at the Wayne Theatre in various capacities, underscoring her steadfast dedication to showcasing the band and celebrating America’s armed forces through music.
“It’s truly an honor to receive this award,” said Tracy Straight. “The mission of the U.S. Army Field Band is powerful, and their music serves as a meaningful reminder of the service and sacrifice of our soldiers and veterans. The U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors, who presented the award, are renowned for their world-class performances, bringing the spirit of America’s armed forces to audiences around the globe. Their November 6 concert at the Wayne Theatre was part of their ongoing effort to connect with communities across the country and share the Army’s story through music.
The Commander’s Award for Public Service is one of the highest honors the U.S. Army bestows on civilians, highlighting Tracy Straight’s significant contributions to the U.S. Army Field Band’s mission and her commitment to honoring veterans.
