The Wayne Theatre is thrilled to announce the next play within our 2024-2025 “Live, Laugh, Loathe” Season, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

There will be a school matinee on Friday, February 21st at 10am. Anticipated call time will be 8:15 a.m.
We are accepting OPEN in-person auditions for ALL ROLES. Must be 16 years or older to audition.
Performers of all gender and racial identities are encouraged to audition. We’re eager to celebrate diversity in body type, race, gender, age, and ability. We strongly encourage LGBTQ, BIPOC actors, actors of diverse body types, and disabled actors to audition!

Callbacks will be held on Monday, December 9 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Actors will be notified via email if they are called back.
NOT everyone will receive a callback. We are not calling back for every role so not receiving a callback does not mean you have not been cast.
Cast List Announced:
Actors will be notified via email if they do or do not receive a role in the production. Those emails will be sent out by December 14th.
Before or on the day of auditions, please fill out this Romeo & Juliet Audition Form and sign up for a monologue time. You will be given a place to submit your resume and headshot.
Please prepare:
Actors will receive a copy of the script before the holidays and are expected to come to the first rehearsal familiar with their lines (not entirely off book but close!)
Rehearsals will begin Sunday, 1/6/25 at 7 pm
Rehearsals Sun, M, W, Th from 7-10 pm at the Wayne Theatre
Tech Rehearsals will be at the Wayne Theatre the week prior to opening. No conflicts accepted during Press Dress (Wednesday, February 5), Tech Week or Performances.
Tech Week:
The week before opening, performers should plan on being present at all tech rehearsals. Every effort will be made to minimize rehearsals going over time. Flexibility is appreciated. The artistic staff reserve the right to make adjustments to the tech schedule based on the needs of the production and the venue restrictions.

Two young lovers from feuding families (the Montagues and Capulets) in Verona meet by chance at a party and are instantly drawn to each other. Even though their families despise each other, they secretly marry, hoping their love can bridge the divide. But their romance triggers a series of tragic events.
ACTOR ADVISORY:
Please be advised that this show contains suggestions and instances of suicide, violence, child abuse, and family conflict.
Violence: The play contains multiple scenes of physical conflict, including a duel that results in death.
Suicide: Themes of suicide are central, with both protagonists ending their lives on stage.
Young Adult Relationships and Marriage: Romeo and Juliet’s impulsive, intense relationship develops quickly, leading to secret marriage and risky decisions.
Family Conflict: The play centers on a bitter feud that influences many tragic events, touching on themes of family pressure and generational tension.

Throughout this show there will be moments of intimacy between the following characters:

For this play we are looking for around 12-15 actors to play all of these roles. Actors may play more than one role.
Romeo: The only son of Lord and Lady Montague. He falls in love with Juliet.

Abram: Works for the Montague family
Balthasar: Works for the Montague family
Juliet: The only daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet. She falls in love with Romeo.

Chris Johnston received his BFA from the University of Utah’s Actor Training Program and his MFA in Shakespeare & Performance from Mary Baldwin University. He has worked in the professional theatre realm for over twenty years as an actor and music director for such companies as Salt Lake Shakespeare, Black Dog Theatre Company (founding member), Egyptian Theatre Company, over 120 productions at the American Shakespeare Center, and several others. During his time at the ASC, he served as Resident Music Director and Actor Manager for several years.
