Marcia is a resident of Charlottesville, where she is a studio artist at the McGuffey Art Center. She is an award winning artist and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in painting from Boston’s School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Marcia expresses her love of nature through her work.  She says, “Throughout my studies of art and art history, I have always been interested in the study of plants and flowers, and how to paint them with the hope of keeping them in sight and memory.”

“I paint mostly from living flowers and plants, with all their variety of color and form, in order to see them grow and develop from almost nonexistent buds to the opening flower, its full bloom, and its inevitable decline. As the seasons advance, the plants that bloom in each time of year tell us that time is passing. Much of the art of nature serves as memento mori, painted to do what we can to remind ourselves of how beautiful life is. While we cannot keep the flowers forever, we can keep the paintings to remind us of what was, and will be again.”
