June 30: Nightingales of the Shenandoah Valley

Shumate

The Wayne Theatre presents Nightingales of the Shenandoah Valley on Sunday, June 30, for one show at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students/$18 for adults.

This recital will feature Shenandoah Valley nightingales Penelope Shumate and Amy Cochrane of Waynesboro, each having developed established careers as operatic sopranos and voice teachers.

Cochrane

They have so many things in common, teaching, operatic roles, Carnegie Hall performances, and most of all their love of the Valley.

They are excited to return to their homes in this unique collaboration which will include arias from Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, songs by African-American Women composers, and also duets and arias ranging from composers Handel to Puccini.

Not only are both accomplished in opera but are known for their artistry in oratorio, chamber music, and song repertoire and look forward to sharing these gems with you as well.

Joining Shumate and Cochrane will be Mary Baldwin University’s Lise Keiter and a violinist and harpist.
