Sept. 14: LIVE @ the WAYNE with After Jack

Sept. 14: LIVE @ the WAYNE with After Jack

LIVE @ the WAYNE returns to the Wayne Theatre on September 14 at 7:30 p.m. The show features After Jack who joins house band The Boogie Kings and host Tracy Straight.

Tickets are $15.

After Jack is a musical celebration of togetherness. Named 2014 Americana Vocal Group of the Year by the Appalachian Cultural Music Association, the trio couples a modern sensibility with distinctly old-time energy to blend bluegrass, gospel and folk elements. Combine your most beloved musical memories with a foot-stomping string band and top it off with harmonies that spring straight from the soul of the mountains, and you’ve got After Jack.

More on After Jack

Emily, Mary and Rachel met in 2010 when they were all working as performers in the same professional theatre company. They quickly realized their shared love of the diverse musical styles of Appalachia, and began to collaborate on musical projects. Each brings a unique musical sensibility to their work. The result is a blend of styles, a merger of old and new, and a one-of-a-kind sound they like to call “Hot Folk.”

After Jack was formed in 2011, and since then, the group has toured extensively throughout much of the US. The Virginia-based trio has performed at some of the biggest roots music festivals in the East, including Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Floyd Fest, Red Wing Roots, and Rooster Walk, and played in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest in 2014.

After Jack’s first full-length album, released in 2014 on Travianna Records, was produced by Aaron Ramsey of Mountain Heart. The album’s title, “Echo,” is a notion that describes the band’s songwriting – a collection of stories to be shared and experiences that can only be lived. It’s also an invitation, to all who encounter it, to share those moments.
