Oct. 15: Luther and the Reformation

The Wayne Theatre presents Rick Steves’ “Luther and the Reformation” on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is Pay What You Will.

“Luther and the Reformation” is a one-hour special commemorating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of the “95 Theses” on the door of the University of Wittenberg chapel in 1517.  The “95 Theses”, a critique of Church corruption and the sale of indulgences, marked the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.  Filmed on location in Europe, Steves’ visits Reformation sites, explores the life of Martin Luther, and examines the complicated political world of the 16th-century Europe and its impact on modern times.

A discussion led by Fr. Rolo Castillo, Pastor of St. John RC and Paul Pingel, Pastor of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, will follow the movie.  An important part of the discussion will be the ways Roman Catholic, Lutheran and other Protestant Christians are much less divided in the present, and how the Church’s unity has been celebrated in this 500th anniversary year.  This is an event offered to the Waynesboro community, and all are encouraged to attend!
