July 17: Glenn Miller Orchestra
The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at the Wayne Theatre on Monday, July 17, at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $40. Early booking for members is available now. Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday, March 1.
The orchestra traces its roots to the original ensemble put together by the legendary Miller in 1938. Miller himself disappeared in a plane over the English Channel in 1944 on his way to a concert for troops in France during World War II, and the orchestra was reformed in 1956 in the wake of the release of “The Glenn Miller Story” starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson, reviving interest in the popular big band leader.
The 18-member band continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements along with some more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound.
The GMO has been on the road longer and more continously than any other Big Band. The band travels over 100,000 miles each year, playing nearly 300 dates.
The Wayne Theatre is located at 521 W. Main St. in Waynesboro.
