You’ll be taking a fantastic journey through musical history and each of the thirty stops along the way will broaden your knowledge, delight you eardrums and some will even have your toes tapping

Music Trivia Night
7:30 pm

30 Songs thru 30 Years

From 1950 to 1979

It’s more than music trivia… It’s more than “Name That Tune”…

You’ll be taking a fantastic journey through musical history and each of the thirty stops along the way will broaden your knowledge, delight you eardrums and some will even have your toes tapping. For each of the tunes presented during the show, you’ll be given the artist and the year the song came out and asked to give the song title. Many of the choices will be quite familiar others perhaps not. In either case, the song will be played through and there will be a number of clues given. A blank answer sheet will be provided, and you’ll be asked to fill in your selections. After all thirty tunes are presented we’ll tally the results. A perfect score would be 30 points. The night’s winner will receive a $75.00 gift packet for the P. Buckley Moss Museum. There will also be other prizes throughout the evening.

The major goal of the show will be to HAVE FUN! and enjoy the evening’s entertainment. The hope is that you’ll come away with having learned some songs and/or artists that you’ll now really enjoy. You’ll also be reminded of tunes out of your past that you’ve perhaps not heard since they were originally aired.

Background

My name is Paul Sanders, born in Waynesboro, Va. I bought my first 45 rpm record in 1956 at the age of 14. The difference between then and now is that I now get my music from the iTunes store and play them on my smart iphone. I started DJing in 1968 and still have a gig every once and a while. My passion is music and I listen to just about every genre that’s out there. Tonight’s show will highlight that diversity, so sit back, open your ears and your mind and ENJOY!

Also appearing on the Variety Show will be a solo turn by the keyboard wonder William Hayes. Rhythm Road will perform songs from their repertory and the Bame Duo will bring their joint talents to the event..

Paul Sanders bought his first 45 as a 14-year-old. For a first record, he didn’t do too bad, walking home with Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” to spin on his record player and drive his parents crazy.

“It was one of the #1 songs of 1950, and many will say the entrance of rock-n-roll,” said Sanders, the host of “30 Songs Through 30 Years,” a program at WTA’s Gateway that takes its audience on a journey through music history.

Sanders, who started deejaying in 1968 and has literally thousands of records in his personal collection, picks out #1 hits from the years 1950-1979 and spins them for the Gateway audience, whose job it is to try to figure out the name of the song with a series of prizes at the end as the reward for the most adept.

Sanders is a Waynesboro native and retired DuPonter who came back home in 2006. After a career as a corporate consultant, he’s happy to be able to devote more of his time to his passion, music.

“I listen to just about every genre that’s out there,” said Sanders, whose shows at the Gateway highlight his diversity of musical tastes.

The next “30 Songs Through 30 Years” show is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at the Gateway.
