Barbara Fairchild headlines weekend show

fairchild225USETHISONEGrammy-nominated recording artist Barbara Fairchild headlines this weekend’s Shenandoah Jamboree at the Historic Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center.

Fairchild, a 2009 inductee into the Christian Music Hall of Fame, will be joined at the Jamboree, which is set for Saturday night at 7 p.m., with special guest Glen Shelton.

Tickets are $25 and $35.

Fairchild is best known for her 1973 #1 single, “The Teddy Bear Song,” which earned her a Grammy nomination.

She followed the success of “The Teddy Bear Song” with “Kid Stuff,” which charted as high as #2, and another Top 10 hit in 1974, “Baby Doll.”

“Barbara’s shows are entertaining and family-friendly at the same time,” said Tracy Straight, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre. “The combination of Barbara Fairchild and Glen Shelton should make for a memorable night at the Shenandoah Jamboree.”

Shelton had a Top 20 hit in 2010, “Help Me to Stand,” and he has opened across the country for big-name acts including Joe Shelton, Darryl Worley, Tanya Tucker and local favorite Jimmy Fortune.

The family-friendly Shenandoah Jamboree concert series, featuring host Lisa Meadows, is held on the first Saturday of each month through December at the Wayne Theatre
