Christmas at the Richard Adams Variety Show

The snow may or may not be falling, but the Valley’s one-man musical tour d’ force will gather the players for a Christmas Celebration Special at the Richard Adams Variety Show.  With his sidekick Bill Martin of the Coffee Party, Richard Adams has collected some old favorites and some new talent for his Friday, Saturday December 6 show at 7:30 pm at WTA’s Gateway in downtown Waynesboro.  From tap dancers to ventriloquist to musicians to audience participation, the Christmas performance will delight young and old alike.

Heading the evening is The Rhythm Road with their eclectic mix of Americana, Irish, Blues and Funkey tunes.  The quartet features Buddy Thomas on guitar, Dr. Jim Harrington on accordion, Chris Wray on bass, and Richard Adams on everything else.  Joining the musical side of the evening will be The Basic City Tuba Choir and Luncheonette.  This rag-tag collection of tubaists will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who has watch a marching band or heard the mellow sounds of tubas serenading the season.

The non-musical side of the evening gives its own meaning to the term “variety”.  Kelly Harris lives in Lexington where she does an astonishing number of different things to earn a living. She’s sometimes a massage therapist, sometimes a clown and on this occasion she’s a ventriloquist. A newcomer to the Richard Adams Variety Show, Harris will couple her clowning skills with her amazing ability to bring a puppet to life.  Richard Adams terpsichorean find, Sophie Suleski will leave the Nutcracker behind and tap dance her way through the holiday spirit to complete the talent on the Variety Show.

That still leaves time for the Variety Show Audience Participation segments.  In keeping with the season,  Richard will conduct the “You Can Do Your Best Ho-Ho-Ho” contest with prizes for the best in show.  And so that qualified members can claim their professionalism Richard will certify all who join in the “You Can Be a Professional Comedian.” contest.  The zany theatrics of complete the December performance.

The RAVS’ Christmas Celebration Special  is at 7:30 at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.  Doors open at 7 pm.  Tickets are $9.99 in advance and $12 on the day of performance.  They may be purchased online or by calling the box office 540-943-9999.  Remaining tickets will be available on the night of performance.
