Mojo Saturday Night, A Special “Two Feature Show”
The Saturday, July 21st Mojo Saturday Night at WTA’s Gateway is lining up to be an awesome night of blues as well as a preview of things to come! A special “Two Feature Show”, Bob Driver and his Blues Trio will perform with The Li’l Bill Band. It’ll be a hot night of Mojo, just in time for the middle of summer!
The Bob Driver Blues Trio has impressed audiences up and down The Valley with their smooth sounds. The trio is made up of Bob Driver, Neil Knicely and Austin Shifflett. Driver provides vocals and guitar. Knicely plays bass and Shifflett the harmonica.
Driver’s soulful voice is emotional and personal, while Knicely keeps the rhythm and holds the bottom on the bass. Shifflett is a harmonica wiz who has been dazzling audiences since he was a teenager. “Austin sat in with an old trio of mine several years ago,” Kevin Chisnell, host of Mojo Saturday Night says, “he was really good back then, and I knew he had something special. He’s even better now!”
Shifflett says that the trio loves to connect with audiences and have them be in sync to the groove, “That way, we all have a good time!”
The Li’l Bill Band is a collection of incredibly talented musicians from all walks of life. They came together on a dark and stormy… actually, their forming is the result of becoming the backing band for Big Bill Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters) at the September 2011 Chili, Blues and Brews Festival in Waynesboro. Afterward, Big Bill asked them to travel with him in February 2012 to headline the 2012 Lowcountry Blues Bash in Charleston, SC. Next up, on August 25, 2012, the Li’l Bill Band will play with Muddy Water’s eldest son, Mud Morganfield – aka Muddy Waters, Jr.!
The Li’l Bill Band members are: Dale Roller – a longtime area favorite supporting many bands regionally and nationally. Jack Roy – hill country blues guitarist and charter member/past president of the Central Virginia Blues Society. Kevin Chisnell – plays harmonica and is the frontman for the Li’l Bill Band (and, ironically, host of Mojo Saturday Night!). Andy Burdetsky – bad blues bottom-end bassist – ‘nuf said! Robert Ballard – drummer extraordinaire… the keeper of the beat.
Mojo Saturday Night at WTA’s Gateway is a lounge-type listening venue, with snacks, soft drinks, beer and wine available. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. They can be ordered online or by calling the box office at 540-943-9999. Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:00pm. Beverages and snacks are available at the concession stand.
